Joseph Still Lives
I tried to speak up, tried to let the truth be known
But my — brothers thought, I was just after the throne
So they ganged up
Ten of them vs me alone (I was all alone)
Some wanted blood, that’s what they thought I deserved
But my oldest brother, wanted my life preserved
Instead they sold me, down to Egypt I was served (Potiphar I served)
That’s where I worked
I worked for my life
Where I was tempted
Tempted by my master’s wife
And somehow through it all
Somehow I still survived
Let it be known
Tell my father
We try to be truthful, call out things we think are cruel
But the — people in power, think we want to rule
So they gang up
And they ban us from their school (he banned me from his school)
Some want blood, want us to bleed for truth we say
Others think drawing blood is too passé
Instead they frame us, to make sure we go away (he told me to go away)
That’s when we’re tested
The test of our lives
When we are tempted
By other people’s wives
And somehow through it all
I pray we all survive
That in the end
That we can tell our father
Galus is tough, we often lose the truths we knew
It’s not just us, the Torah’s here in Galus too
I pray that somehow
Somehow we make it through (please God help us make it through)
Every fractal is a story on its own
Sometimes the brothers don’t regret and don’t atone
Sometimes Ben Yosef
Dies in Egypt all alone (we don’t bring out his bones)
He’s been tested
The test of his life
He’s been tempted
Overcame evil and strife
Yet somehow through it all
Somehow they failed to recognize
That he’s their brother
He’s our brother
